The Master of Science in Executive Leadership and Organizational Change Graduates Its First Class

Dec. 2, 2008

Northern Kentucky University will graduate its inaugural class from the Executive Leadership and Organizational Change Master's Program.  The class of 25, who completed the program at the end of the summer term, will receive their degrees at NKU's Commencement ceremonies on Dec. 20, 2008.

The Executive Leadership and Organizational Change program is offered through the Haile/US Bank College of Business.  Currently the program has 45 highly talented and motivated students and 25 alumni from diverse professional fields and geographic locations including Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Michigan, Tennessee, and Florida.  Each group of students enters the program during the Fall semester and remain together as a cohort during their entire time.  They meet once a month at the METS Center where they work together tackling such issues as Transformational Leadership, Teams and Conflict Management, and Managing Change.

According to Dean John Beehler of the Haile/US Bank College of Business, "This cutting-edge niche program has been extremely well-received both in our region and in the national circles.  There is clearly a need for the future executive talent of our region to be astute in the practice of leadership in guiding our institutions through necessary change in these turbulent times in the global marketplace.  NKU is very please to deliver on this need via the graduates of our ELOC Program."

Since its inceptions in 2006, the ELOC program has expanded to serve the needs of the regional business community.  This innovative master's program applies the most current theories and practices on leadership and organizational change on multiple organizational levels.  It uses the latest adult-learning framework of ACT (action learning, competency development, and teamwork development) to help leaders and professionals develop a broad set of knowledge and skills that allow them to transform their organizations.

"The ELOC program is the premier leadership program in the region, and its graduates represent our region's finest current and future leaders.  It was my pleasure to work with the first-graduating class for the past two years, and I want to congratulate them on their hard work and dedication to excellence that led to their success.  We are expecting great things from them in the future, and the region will definitely benefit from their contributions, " said Dr. Tracey Sigler, Chairperson of the Management department and one of the founding members of the ELOC program.

The first graduating class sponsored an ELOC Scholarship golf outing during June, 2008 and raised $10,000 to create an ELOC Scholarship fund that will help future students continue their leadership education.  Members of the graduating class commented that they wanted to give something back to the program that had given them such a life-changing experience.

"We wanted our students to develop personally and professionally, to impact their own organizations, and most of all, to make a difference in their community.  We think they are off to a great start, " said Dr.  Kenneth Rhee, ELOC Director.

The Master of Science in Executive Leadership and Organizational Change is one of 17 master's degrees offered at Northern Kentucky University.  For more information about the ELOC program, please contact Dr. Kenneth Rhee, Ph.D., Program Director, at 859-572-6310 or at rhee@nku.edu
