American Concrete Institute Fellowship

 N. Mike Schafer
Congratulations to N. Michael Schafer, construction management student and vice president of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, has been awarded one of six American Concrete Institute student fellowships.

Schafer received the award after a rigorous application process that began with more than 4,000 applicants who were asked to write an essay about their interest and experience in the concrete and construction industries.

Schafer is currently an intern with Turner Construction Company. He has worked with Turner since he was a sophomore in the NKU Construction Management Program. His first assignment as an intern was working on NKU's Bank of Kentucky Center. After his time there he was moved to a renovation project at Clinton Massie Middle School near Wilmington, Ohio.

A scholarship committee reviewed all the applications and selected Schafer as one of 10 finalists to compete for the six fellowships. He was then interviewed by a scholarship committee at an American Concrete Institute Convention in San Antonio, Texas.

"I feel honored to not only be the recipient of this award," he said, "but I am glad to represent NKU and the organizations I am involved with in a positive way."

Schafer was selected as the recipient of the ACI Baker Concrete Fellowship. The award consists of an all-expenses-paid trip to ACI conventions in New Orleans and Chicago, an internship with Baker Concrete and $7,000.
