Professor Rick Bales teaches at Northern Kentucky University, Chase College of Law. He has authored or co-authored more than forty scholarly articles, most on the subject of employment Alternative Dispute Resolution. Professor Bales has published two books: Compulsory Arbitration, published by Cornell University’s ILR Press in 1997; and Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Workplace, published by West in 2000 with a second edition in 2005.
Before coming to Chase, Professor Bales taught at the University of Montana Law School and at Southern Methodist University Law School in Dallas. Prior to that, he litigated employment cases for the Houston-based law firm of Baker & Botts and the Cleveland-based law firm of Baker & Hostetler. He received his law degree from Cornell Law School in 1993.
Professor Bales completed the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service’s 40-hour Labor Arbitration Training program in 2001. He is a volunteer arbitrator for the Kentucky Bar Association and a volunteer lawyer for the Northern Kentucky Volunteer Lawyers Association.
